Mat Muscat, Technical Services Manager
Mat has been with JHTA for over five years now. In that time he spent two years as the Commercial Technical Support Officer, where he focused on commercial clients and managed all servicing and repairs for Matrix equipment. Mat’s background is in information technology, making him an asset to the team when it comes to working with consoles, televisions and MyRide which is supervised by Amanda McInnes, a new addition to the team.
Mat has since been promoted to his current management role in which he is in charge of a team of over 10 people, made up of technical support officers, parts procurement officers, service technicians as well as now managing the Technical Services Delivery and Installation sub-department which is Co-ordinated by Scott Pattie, a new addition to the team.
Additionally, Mat liaises with all the external contractors that JHTA uses to make sure they are aware of any updates and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. Mat is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure every client is happy with their equipment and servicing and that they love their Matrix products.
John Mullen, Major Accounts Manager - Queensland / Northern Territory
John’s insurmountable knowledge of the fitness industry proves to be consistently invaluable at JHTA. Prior to coming on board as a Major Accounts Manager, John was refining his skills over a range of positions with one of Australia’s premium fitness equipment providers. John’s extensive experience in the industry has ensured that his name is commonplace in the fitness industry across Queensland and the Northern Territory.
His ability to establish and maintain relationships with key accounts Australia and New Zealand wide ensure his clients and their business colleagues turn to him continually for new sales, equipment upgrades, gym refurbishments, advice, recommendations and direction.
Darren Elkin, New South Wales Commercial Sales Manager
Darren’s career in the fitness industry spans over 17 years and comprises of a range of positions and responsibilities. Darren has extensive industry experience, having commenced his career as a personal trainer before moving into club management and ownership. Having been there himself, Darren knows what managing a gym requires and what customers expect from the facility.
For the past seven years Darren has been working as a sales executive in the commercial fitness equipment industry with a high level ‘can do’ attitude. With a passion that is evident from the first time you meet him, Darren has the expertise to smoothly handle all aspects of an account, including logistics, equipment planning, management of fit outs, and problem solving.
Darren additionally holds an Advanced Diploma in Business Management from the University of Ballarat.

Grant O’Shaughnessy; Owner/Operator of Fleet Commercial Gymnasiums, WA Matrix Distributor
Grant O’Shaughnessy has been associated with the Matrix brand for over 10 years; in this time he has done great things for our brand name in Western Australia through his sales, installations and service. Along with his vast experience and interest in sports, fitness and the outdoors, Grant brings with him a sharp business brain having completed a Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing from Curtin University. Before coming on board at Matrix, Grant also gained great sales industry experience as a brand manager at Brambles, a global pooling business.
He continues to work hard at strengthening brand awareness of the Matrix range of equipment in WA, and with his unwavering commitment to the task at hand we greatly appreciate having him on-board at Team Matrix.
Michael Richards, Commercial Sales Executive - Western Australia
Michael is a relatively new addition to Team Matrix, but is not short on sales and territory management experience with over 10 years of involvement in related roles. Although he does not have the extensive background in the fitness industry of some of our team members, he has started and continues with a very positive approach, being a keen and fast learner throughout the steep learning process of starting in a new business.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Arts Degree that instils his commitment to seeing all processes through to a constructive outcome.
He is currently working hard at increasing brand awareness of the Matrix range of equipment in WA, and with his emphasis on the importance of building positive relationships with clients and partners we have faith in his ability to continue to succeed at this task.
Chris Duncan, Commercial Sales Executive – VIC & TAS
Chris comes to Team Matrix with a strong background and keen interest in sports and fitness. After studying Sports Science at Manchester University, Chris moved on to play semi-professional soccer in the UK and also coach soccer in the US in his off-seasons. Since deciding on sales as a career, Chris has shifted his hard work and dedication to his occupation and has worked his way up the sales chain by doing so. Chris has gained invaluable experience in a number of roles with some pretty big names in the beverage and sports supplement industry. Combining his love of health and fitness with his sales career, we are sure Chris will prove to be an invaluable member of Team Matrix over the years to come.
David Connell, Commercial Sales Executive – VIC & SA
David is one of the newest members to come on board to the Matrix sales team. With his strong background in the fitness industry and his solid business acumen, we are keen to see what he will bring to the team over time. David has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Administration and has backed this up with invaluable hands-on experience from his many roles within the fitness industry over the last 15 years, from sales to financial services and beyond. Further to this, David has also served on the board of Fitness VIC and managed his own business which consulted with fitness centres on the implementation of training and sales systems. With this background, we are certain he will have all the skills necessary to get great outcomes for his clients and their facilities.
Shane Mackaway, Commercial Sales Executive – NSW
Shane is the latest addition to the Matrix sales team having started only this past Wednesday. Shane comes to Matrix with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fitness industry with over 12 years of involvement under his belt already. Shane has worked in a number of varied roles within the industry starting as a service technician, moving up to become a sales manager and even further as a director. Shane uses his knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for fitness in helping his clients through the entire process of gym set up, from selecting equipment right through to the finished installation.
Anthony Larsen, Commercial Sales Executive – QLD, NT & South Pacific Islands
Anthony may be a newcomer to the Matrix team, but he is by no means new to the industry having 15 years of experience under his belt. Anthony started out his fitness career as a personal trainer/massage therapist; he then made the move into managing health clubs and eventually into selling commercial fitness equipment. This hands-on experience in a number of aspects within the industry leaves him in great stead to do what he loves--getting great outcomes for his clients and their facilities.
Over the past ten years of his sales career, Anthony has placed a lot of focus on building lasting relationships with a number of types of clients such as big and small chain clubs, hotels, corporate, defence and education. He has also gained great experience and knowledge in regards to logistics and other factors of international sales and support having dealt with clients right across the South Pacific Islands.
TECHNICIANS – Service/Delivery & Installation
Daryl Rowley, Senior Technician
Daryl is a qualified electronics technician with a cabling licence and 26 years of experience in technical and electronic fields. Daryl is driven by curiosity to find out how things work and how all the individual elements fit together in each piece of equipment. More recently, Daryl has worked for JHTA for more than five years gaining valuable experience with Matrix commercial fitness equipment.
As standard at JHTA, Daryl holds a portable appliance testing licence, D&R certificate of competency and a full fork lift licence as well as a heavy rigid truck license. This allows him to work on any job site, including those in the construction phase, and lets him be hands on at every stage of the installation.

David Nicholls, Senior Technician – QLD
David has been working within the fitness industry for almost 10 years now, over two years of which have been with us at Matrix. David has not come from the vast mechanical background of some of our other technicians but more than makes up for it in passion, know-how and a keen mechanical interest. He is a very skilled and reliable technician with a penchant for diagnostics over replacements, and is an absolute asset to the team. As standard within Queensland David also holds a Restricted Electrical Licence.
Before entering the fitness industry David worked within heavy mechanics operation as well as maintaining heavy earth moving equipment, experience which has assisted with his smooth transition into this industry.
Geoff Johnson, Technician – Melbourne
After qualifying as a motor mechanic, Geoff worked in the trade for ten years servicing, repairing and adjusting cars of all shapes and sizes. Needing a change, Geoff decided to become a personal trainer and qualified as a fitness instructor. His vast experience in the fitness industry, skills and ability with machinery and practical tasks made him the perfect candidate for becoming an equipment technician.
A UK native, Geoff worked as a technician in his homeland for almost 8 years with two different suppliers. Geoff immigrated to Australia in 2003 and continued to work with various fitness equipment supply companies. He has a vast knowledge of different brands and equipment and has been a great asset to JHTA since joining the team in April 2010. Geoff can quickly and easily identify what is causing a fault on a machine, and his experience with motors, consoles and moving parts mean the problem is resolved and the equipment back up and running in no time.

Seth Vanwyngaarden, Technician – NSW
With over 15 years of experience in the fitness industry working for various organisations, Seth’s expertise makes him a vital member of Team Matrix. His experience covers many areas in the industry that include but are not limited to managing staff and spare parts, repairing a range of equipment both in house and on site, training staff as well as contractors on equipment and repairs and also product testing.
His qualifications and proficiency in fitting, machining, marine mechanics and marine fitting epitomize his keen interest in engineering and mechanics that is of great importance in his career. Seth is a highly experienced technician who takes great pride in his work and Matrix.
Tony Slayford, Senior Technician
Tony has recently moved back into the role of technician after filling in as Commercial Installation Manager for some time. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience completing installations, scheduling, testing and maintaining equipment as well as driving trucks. Having been solely responsible for coordinating and planning some of JHTA’s major installations he not only brings his technical skills to his work but also his experience with arranging and executing all equipment, deliveries and commissioning for commercial customers but also takes great pride in his achievements and high performance at work.
